OUR YESTERDAY, OUR TODAY, OUR
TOMORROW.
OUR YESTERDAY
I look back at yesterday, just a
decade ago, and I can almost see how it all
started. A burning desire in the heart of a man
who has seen the extent to which “white man” can
get things done right. Despite the difference in
colour and country, he believes that what is
good for the goose is also good for the
gander.
So the voyage began over several
seas and air space. The journey back home was
with a simple mission “to share with others,
what has been acquired”. Then, the search
started. A Search for the right location, the
right workforce, the right facilities, the
materials. All these were to be combined to
launch into the right academic worth and moral
value. So, an idea based on experienced, like
and egg from the ovary which gets fertilized in
the oviduct, was nurtured in the brain. The
product or zygote developed into a baby. Labour
pangs contraction and finally a child came
forth. On the day the baby was christened a
folded pieced of paper was passed to all well
wishers. Screaming at the readers face was the
name.
GEORGE
AND DUKE INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE
OUR TODAY
That baby
has grown and has recorded feast in various
fields, some of which are listed below:
ACADEMIC:
The school provides quality education for her
students in the commercial, science, art and
language departments. Every child that enrolls
here is seen as raw gold that needs to be
refined so that it becomes purified. /we act
simply as the refinery,. By combing several
learning techniques we help each child to
discover him or herself, acquire self worth,
expand his or her knowledge base and pursue a
good goal in life.
Our teaching method combined
discussion, experimentation, research work and
in special cases the Montessori methods of
teaching. The student make use of our well
equipped library and our computer room which
has internet facilities to up date their
knowledge and find answers to the several
assignment they are given weekly. The music room
offers student good training in the art of music
helping to nurture latent talents that lie
within them. The school farm has garden, a
functional poultry and fish ponds. Thus,
Agricultural science is practiced rather than
learnt by note. Such practical teachings are
also used for Chemistry, Physics, Biology,
Technical Drawing, and Food & Nutritional
Creative Arts.
DISCIPLINE:
At George and Duke, we believe success is a
correlate of disciple. In mathematical terms we
believe that discipline is directly proportional
to success. Discipline in our school can be seen
in our dressing, our punctuality to work, the
neatness of student and teachers, the clean
environment, in which learning takes place, the
courteous manner in which our student address
themselves, the teachers, parents and the
general public just to mention a few.
Appropriate punishment is meted out to erring
student and in rare cases when we see the need
to apply or enforce sanction to bring about
correction, we do not spare the rod.
SPORT: Our believe in the “Total
Child” is the propelling force that has made
it possible to achieve the great feat that our
school is associated with in the world of sports
today. The male and female relay quartet of
George and Duke remains the team to beat in Oyo
State. The Bi-annual Inter-house sport further
helps to discover talents who are encouraged to
take on sport as a career after their secondary
and tertiary education.
CLUB AND SOCIETIES:
It is part of the policy of the
school that all members of staff and student in
the school must compulsorily belongs to one or
more of the various clubs and societies that are
registered in the school. These club include:-
Young Farmer club, Drama society, Literary and
Debating society, press club, Junior Engineer,
Technicians and scientist (JETS), Cultural
society, French and German club. Etc. The Annual
club and society week helps the public to
appreciate the rich value that these club have
deposited in their members.
STAFFING:
The search for the right workforce led to the
recruitment of disciplined, qualified and
dedicated teacher, most of whom have special
training in education. The workforce is well
motivated and has remained in high spirit year
in and year out. The good result of our
student in past SSCE, NECO, and JSCE examination
has always been attributed to the team spirit
that is evident among our teaching staff. The
vice principal
Heads of
units and subject teachers have taken their
assigned responsibilities to heart and are
working daily to sustain the positive tempo that
the school has reached in the last five years.
INFRASTRUCTURE:
Our institution is a
comprehensive co-educational college with
boarding facilities having separate hostel
arrangement for male and female students. Our
group of schools includes our pre-primary,
primary, secondary and post secondary
institution. Transport facilities exist for
students within and outside the state. We have
two bore holes, a large cafeteria, computer
room, music room and staff quarters (that is
near completion). There is need to also mention
that we have standard laboratories for the
sciences and all vocational subjects. A School
clinic helps to see to the health needs of both
the student and staff at al times.
OUR
TOMORROW: What will
George and Duke wish to be known for in the
future a? This is clearly represented in our
mission statement.
“To
nurture world class ambassador who will provide
the required human Capital needed for
entrepreneurship and Global industrial
development”
As a
school, we believe in Nigeria, we are committed
to nurture morally upright, academically
stable and God fearing individuals that will
change the fortunes of this country for good.
This is our aim and we will work tirelessly to
achieve this goal. That is a promise.
