PARENT/TEACHER
ASSOCIATION AT
GEORGE & DUKE
ELEMENTARY / NURSERY SCHOOL
Right from history,
education of an African child has always been
collective responsibility of both teachers and
parents and in-fact of the community. In
Nigeria today, there is an increasing awareness
of the importance of Parent-Teacher Association
in our educational Institutions. In almost
all primary and secondary Institutions there
exist a standing PTA. In George & Duke
Nursery / Elementary School there exists a
functional PTA. The PTA has an excellent
working relationship with the school
management.
The functions of
PTA at George & Duke Elementary /Nursery
School are as follow:
1. The PTA
has the task of educating its members to be
familiar with the college programmed and
policies. The management and parents see
themselves as partners. The parents are
familiar with the college and what it stands
for. This has been achieved through the
dissemination of acquaint parents with the goals
and aspirations of the school.
2. The PTA
at George & Duke institutions serves as a forum where
parents and Teachers come together once in a
term to explore the possible causes of
difficulties encountered in teaching learning
situation. With joint consultation between
teachers and parents, it is possible for both
parties to make realistic plans for helping
children to make the maximum use of their
interest and abilities.
3. PTA is
also being formed in many parts of the country
to perform vital functions with regards to the
welfare of the school. Fund-raising has come to
be one of the major functions of PTA at George &
Duke Institutions. The PTA offers the avenue for the
management to seek financial and material
assistance from parents. The PTA has in the
last one year being able to participate actively
in the Inter-House Sports, the Staff Welfare
improvement scheme, the Christmas Party, the
Library upgrading project, the prize
giving/awards and valedictory service.
4. The PTA
is an important organ
that ensures parental participation in College
management. The home and the school unite to
re-mould the young, to guide them and prepare
them to be academically stable, morally upright
and God fearing individuals that will change the
fortunes of this country for good. The PTA
Executives have been authorized to manage PTA
funds without interference from the management
of the college.
